The opener for the Batters had typical chilly weather and lots of enthusiasm for the season. First game had a lot of hitting but fell short on defense with a few miss-cues. Second game was less offensive but one more run was all we needed. Hitting 5-7 were Aaron and Matt with everyone getting on atleast once. -SM

Opening Day was cold for the coaches while the players seemed to ignore the cold - wearing T-shirts and shorts. The team played well against Harvest Community Church - losing 10 - 8 and then winning 4-3. Scott Mason ( 5 for 7) and Matt Pokey (5 for 7) had HRs while Aaron Bubb went 4 for 4 and Peter Medtlie went 2 for 3 in the first game. Bob Peschel pitched both games using his waste pitch to strike out an inordinate number of batters in the second game.

It was still cold as the Batters won both games of the double header against New Hope 2: 15 to 6 and 16 to 5. Everyone contributed . Matt Pokey lead the way with a 6 for 6 nite including a home run - followed close behind by Dave Armstong with 5 for 6 and a home run. HRs were also hit by Scott Bussen (3 for 4) and Ricky Wolniakowski (1 for 3). The word is out around the league about Aaron Bubb's power as he was intentionally walked. Jeff McClellan returned to the line up with a 3 for 4 nite including a key hit while John Hoylman returned from the DL to a 2 for 3 second game. The defense showed much improvement with outstanding catches by Dave Armstrong and Scott Mason. Bob Peschel improved his record to 3 and 1 inspite of the cold that forced his use of various pitching hand heating techniques on the bench and in the field.

A very supportive crowd of church members , families and friends saw the Bay Batters win two games against Faith Bible 2 team - 9 to 8 and then 4 to 2. Both were good games with defense being key to the Bay Batter successes. John Hoylman continued to show his recovery after returning from the DL with an outstanding play at 3rd base - while Scott Bussen and Neil Clerc distinguished themselves in the outfield. Dave Armstrong provided the steady play need from the short stop position. The "Bob/Bob" pitching combo was up to the task. The Bay Batters spotted Faith Bible 2 five runs in the first inning of the first game - and then had to work their way back. Aaron Bubb lead the offense in the first game with 2 for 2 and 2 runs scored (1 for 2 in the second game). Neil Clerc was an effective lead off hitter with a 3 for 5 night while Dave Bolyard had a critical double to right with men on base in the first game. Bob Kriefall pitched out of several jams including the final inning when Faith Bible had the tying run on third as the final out was recorded. In the second game, Bob Peschel had a shut out until the 5th inning. The sixth inning was a struggle - but Bob bore down in the 7th to retire the side in order. Bob also saved a run by backing up third. Scott Mason and Dave Armstrong lead the offense with 2 hits a piece. Next week's game is against Harvest Community Church - with whom the Bay Batters are tied at 5 - 1 in their Division and responsible for their only loss.

In the first game as the Bay Batters got off to a slow start but timely defense and outstanding catches by Scott Mason and Neil Clerc set the stage for a dramatic rally in the bottom of the 7th......hits by Chris Trebatoski, Neil Clerc and Jason Pokey loaded the bases....Matt Pokey followed with a game tying 3 run triple and the hero Dave Armstrong brought Matt in with the winning run. In game 2 Bay Batters couldn't get anything going offensively but Scott Bussen and Scott Mason continued thier outstanding defensive efforts in the loss! Neil and Jason sat out and it seemed to take the steam out of the batters!

Enjoy the long weekend and stay healthy.

Monday nite began to look like a repeat of the last nite out as the Bay Batters won the first game easily (14-0) and then had a difficult time getting started in the second game. First Alliance lead until the sixth inning when The Bay Batters scored 7 runs to go up 11-6.

In both games, the defense was strong with the outfield showing their strong arms by throws from Jeff McClellan to 3rd and Neil Clerc to home. Bob Peschel pitched one of his best games with the first game shut out and one of his best innings ( 4 pitches ) only to extend the second game an additional inning based on the time limit.

The offense was lead by John Hoylman with a 4 for 4 nite (plus 2 walks) and Neil Clerc with 7 for 9. Dave Armstrong was hitting the long ball (5 for 7) . Dave Soeldner and Bob Peschel also had 5 for 7 while Scott Mason and Jeff Mclellan went 4 for 7." It was a good team effort.

Even with an abundance of players, the Bay Batters bats got hot all the way down the lineup. Winning the toss, the team started (uncharacteristicly) getting hits early and never looked back. Nice defense quenched any rallies on the other side.

Take it easy, we'll see you in 2 weeks!

Game 1 for Bay Batters started off with a bang as we scored 8 runs in the 1st on the way to a solid victory. Leading the offense with 3 hits a piece were Neil Clerc, Jason Pokey, Scott Mason, Matt Pokey and Partick Newbury. HR'S by Neil Clerc and Jason Pokey inspired each member of the lineup to get at least 2 hits......defense all around was also solid as Neil C., Dave Armstrong and Scott M. shined in the field while Bob Kriefall threw an outstanding game giving up only 3 runs....a great team effort with positive results.

Game 2 was an extension of game 1 as the Bay Batters were on fire once again with Jason P. and Scott M. hitting HR's while the defense all around was again solid......Bob K. pitched yet another gem allowing only 4 runs and gettin a clutch double late in the game to break open a close 6-3 margin......enthusiasm was high wth the success we shared as a team.......lets keep those bats rolling!!!!!!!!

The Bay Batters struggled to win the second game against New Hope 2 by a score of 11 - 6 after rather easily winning the first game 12-6. Perhaps John Hoylman was the missing link. The team was behind by scores of 5-3 and 6-5 in the second game until the 6th inning when they scored 4 runs with key hits from the pitching staff - Bob Kriefall and Bob Peschel. A duplicate brother act saw Jason Pokey hit a triple and Matt pokey drive him in with a single - later followed by Neil Clerc tripling to be driven in by his brother Jimmy. Dave Armstrong was the offensive leader for the evening with 4 /6 - including 3 triples. Dave also shown in the field at ss with several outstanding plays.

On the offense, Neil Clerc was 4/7 with 4 runs scored including a HR, Jason Pokey was 5/6 with 3 runs, John Hoylman was 3/3 with 2 runs in the first game, Aaron Bubb had 1/3 with 3 walks and Bob Peschel had 3/5 and one run scores. Bob also showed good defensive skills with the needed grace to complete an out.

It was a tough evening for the Bay Batters who lost two games to First Alliance - 10 - 9 and 15 - 0. The first game was lost in the bottom of the last inning when First Alliance scored 4 runs to win. The Bay Batters could not maintain a lead that they held from the first inning . The offense was lead by Scott Bussen, Matt Pokey, Scott Mason, Rick Wolniakowski and Bob Peschel. In the field there were several outstanding plays .

In the second game , the offense could not get started as the team had only 4 hits with a total of 6 base runners. The rain make up games next Monday will be against this same First Alliance team - giving the Bay Batters a second chance.

L 6-9
Lindsay 2 The Bay Batters responsded well to the challenge of a good First Alliance team before losing 10 to 6 and then 9 to 6. They relinquished an early lead in the first game - but tied the score in the 6th inning only to give up 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th. In the second game, First Alliance scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning and several more runs later . But the Bay Batters came back to almost close the gap. Both games were well played. The Bay Batters offense was lead by Aaron Bubb with a 5 for 6 nite and 1 run scored. Rick Wolniakowski was 4 for 6 with 3 runs scored while Jason Pokey and Scott Mason had 3 for 6 nites. In the outfield, Neil Clerc and Scott Mason made outstanding catches. Bob Peschel's pitching and defense kept the Bay Batters in both games.

Estabrook The Bay Batters overcame the challenge of the wind as well as psycological challenges raised by New Hope 2 in order to win both "post season" games. Neil Clerc and Scott Bussen provided the heart of the offense. Of the total 13 runs scored , Neil and Scott scored 8
times based on Neil's 4 for 5 ( line drives) and Scott's 3 for 4 (line drives) -- each getting on base ( with walks) 7 of the 8 times they were at bat (GOT THAT?). Jason Pokey lead the team with 5 hits for the nite while John Hoylman (with a walk) , Bob Peschel and Dave Solder (with 2 walks ) each had 3 hits and scored atleast one run - Dave scoring 2.
Bob Peschel's pitching and the defense had the first game under control - but the second game was in doubt until Chris Trebatoski drove the ball over the left fielder's head in the bottom of the 6th inning to score 2 runs. The defense was lead by the infield play of John Hoylman and Dave Armstrong - with the outfielders (Scott Bussen, Scott Mason, Neil Clerc and Jason Pokey) handling well the blown fly balls. The season wraps up next week with games against the first place team Harvest Community at Lindsay 1 - followed by a team get together.
8.16 L4-12
W 8-7
Lindsay 1

The Bay Batters ended the season with a final one run victory (8-7) over Harvest Community to take the Division C Championship. The victory was the result of contributions from everyone - including the coaching staff as Hux (Dick Huxtable) alertly noticed a missed base by a Harvest Community base runner - resulting in a very important out and lost run. Rick Wolniakowski provided the major blow and inspiration with a grand slam home run in the 4th inning. Scott Mason drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 6th. Then Bob Peschel used his pitching skills in the top of the 7th inning to get strike outs (foul balls) from two of the better Harvest Community hitters with the third out coming from a well played ground ball by Rick. It was a very special come back for the night and ending the season by the Bay Batters.

The defense was outstanding in both games with 2 sensational catches by Scott Mason . Scott Bussen fielded a one hop drive extremely well - to complement his earlier throw to the plate for an out by a Dave Soeldner tag. Dave Armstrong contributed a special catch and play at shortstop - along with a 3 for 6 nite at the plate with 2 runs scored. Scott Bussen was 3 for 6 with 2 runs scored. Jason Pokey hit a home run in the first inning of the second game to allow the team to begin a catch up to the early scoring by Harvest Community. It was a good season.

Look forward to next year - with the first practice at Whitefish Bay HS on Saturday April 2, 2005 at 10 AM. See you all there.
